Permeation Leaks utilize a durable 7740 Pyrex glass permeation leak element which permits diffusion of Helium gas through the glass membrane at a constant rate determined by the membrane thickness and surface area.

Lifetime of a Calibrated Leak.
If a calibrated leak has a rate of 1×10 e-8 std. cc/second, then 1 standard cc will diffuse through the walls in 10 e8 seconds which is close to 3 years. Becasue the reservoir holds about 100 standard cc of Helium, the rate will fall by 1 percent at the end of 3 years.
