K-Cell utilizes the principle of molecular effusion. Material to be deposited is heated in an isothermal enclosure with an aperture in its wall, reaching a suitable vapor pressure. Molecular effusion occurs when the mean free path exceeds the aperture’s dimensions, resulting in a cosine intensity distribution that can be collimated into an electrically neutral material beam. This source offers reproducible deposition from sub-monolayer to continuous films. The furnace housing, cooled by water or liquid nitrogen, is mounted with electrical feedthrough and bellows-sealed shutter assembly on a DN40CF flange, allowing the cell to pass through a 35mm bore tubulation.
Changes in the cell temperature are simply achieved by changing the set temperature digitally displayed on the controller.
